Historical Significance
Era and Lineage: This sword dates to the transitional period between the Muromachi and Edo eras. Despite an appraisal dating it to the late Muromachi period, the inclusion of the Takasaki place name (established in Keichō 2) indicates it was crafted by 3rd-generation Morishige during this new-old era boundary.
Domain Craftsman: Following the establishment of the Takasaki Domain by the Ii family in 1607, Morishige was formally employed as an official domain craftsman for the Takasaki Domain.
