Un katana koto certificato NBTHK Hozon e attribuito al gruppo Shitahara di Bushu (Musashi). Con una nagasa di 62,27 cm e un delicato sori di 0,76 cm, la lama presenta un profilo dignitoso in shinogi-zukuri e una jihada ben forgiata lodata nella descrizione. Tre mekugi-ana riflettono rimontature nel corso di una lunga vita di servizio mantenendo proporzioni sane.

Le lame Shitahara spesso mostrano una forgiatura costante con influenze Sōshū-Mino. Una caratteristica da osservare è jorinmoku（如輪杢）—piccole figure simili a vortici sulla superficie dell'acciaio—visibili nelle opere rappresentative degli spadai Shitahara.

Contesto dello spadaio

Shitahara è l'area storica di forgiatura nell'odierna città di Hachiōji (Tokyo). Si dice che la scuola sia stata fondata da Yamamoto Norishige e ha prosperato dalla fine del periodo Muromachi al tardo Edo (fine XVI-XIX secolo). Gli spadai Shitahara, noti come Shitahara Kaji, inizialmente lavorarono al servizio del clan Hōjō. La celebre linea Yasushige inizia con la prima generazione, originariamente firmata Chikashige; adottò il carattere 「康」 (Yasu) da Hōjō Ujiyasu, cambiando il suo nome in Yasushige.

Dopo la sconfitta degli Hōjō da parte dei Toyotomi durante il periodo Azuchi-Momoyama, il gruppo Shitahara servì i Tokugawa come okakae kaji, spadai ufficiali trattenuti dalla casa feudale, e continuò a forgiare nel periodo Edo. Molti spadai Shitahara portavano il cognome Yamamoto; tra loro, Yasushige è particolarmente rinomato.

Storia della scuola

Come l'unica tradizione di forgiatura nell'area moderna di Tokyo a produrre lame del periodo koto, la scuola Shitahara è significativa sia storicamente che regionalmente. Le caratteristiche tipiche includono forme pratiche e resistenti; linee di tempra calme influenzate da Sōshū/Mino; e attività distintiva di jorinmoku nella jihada. Questo esempio certificato Hozon rappresenta il carattere robusto e da campo del gruppo in un'estetica Muromachi ben conservata.

Shipping and Return

Swords are shipped from Tokyo, Japan. We manage all the procedures to export the sword.
You can't return sword to Japan because procedures are too strict.
We work with a shipping company that have experience with Nihonto so you don't have to worry.
Please check the rules of your country before importing the sword. We do not take any responsibility, including (not limited to) refund, due to the above reasons.
We can NOT cancel an order once, we already applied for the export authorization. As this document is made to customer name.

We have shipped authentic Japanese swords to the USA, UK, Canada, Mexico, Germany, France, Hong Kong, and Australia. If you don’t live in these countries and like to order, please contact us first before purchasing. We normally ship by EMS (Express Mail Service) provided by Japan Post.

Export Procedure (We manage it)

・All our swords are registered in the Agency for Cultural Affairs as artwork and The Board of Education(Cultural properties protection Committee); therefore each sword has the registration card, issued by the Board of Education.
・After receiving the full payment of the items,we return the registration card and get the permission from Ministry of Cultural Affairs to export the swords legally from Japan. It will take about 1 to 3 months for that step.
・After the receiving the permission, we will inform you by email and send the items immediately.
